Our Town

http://www.corycullinan.com/Images/Our_Town.GIFI am not a single truth
Just one of endless sides
The truth lies in the love of living
It’s not what I decide

Now glimpse a giant stone
Suspended weightless in the sky
That is to each her own
Each chisels out a tiny side
It smooths into a globe

I’m feeling light as ideals
Please don’t weigh me down
Please don’t make a sound
Unless it glistens brightly, lightly
In our town the soil is stronger
Than ambitions in our heads
We dance upon its surface
Leave nothing buried now

And after all the moments I can share
Can merely shade a mood
That lingers soft and changes often
Forever reconstrued

The peace within my head becomes the finest gift I own
Forever may it shine
True peace needs less than it’s been given
Leaves some for those behind

Try feeling light as ideals
Please don’t weigh us down
Please don’t make a sound
Unless it glistens brightly, lightly
In our town the earth is firmer
Than decisions in our heads
We dance upon its surface
Leave no one standing now

When you smile you place a warmth within my heart
Please believe all that you give me
I always need you to want to be with me
Worlds are giant, I am small

With good reason we are thrilled with our own lives
Measure this life by what I’m giving
I do not know now why I am living
But I know I’m living now

In our town the seeds are planted
By the lightness in our hearts
So dance above
The flowers are nourished
By the brightness of our smiles
This earth I love
Our town is capable of anything at all
So shape what you’ve been given
And make it what you can

In our town…

Notes

This is one of my favorite things I’ve ever written.  I suppose the best way to describe this piece is this:  I hope to feel the way I felt when I wrote Our Town as much as possible during my life.
